Beaver Lake Striper Report

BAILEY'S BEAVER LAKE GUIDE SERVICE (479)366-8664 Fishing has been slow but there are fish to be caught, most fish will be bottom oriented and in the mid lake section of the lake. Most fish are 30-70ft deep. With the cold front coming through this week the fish will remain down and fishing will be difficult. I expect another "shad kill" near the end of the week. Live bait will be the go to approach. Some fish can be caught on jigs or jigging spoons. You will have to get in their face with whatever you use. Bottom fishing should be productive over the coming weekend.

We may see more ice form up river late in the week.

The Corp of Engineers are dropping the lake! Watch out for navigation hazards you may have forgotten about during the high water period. Current through the lake will have fish facing "up river" and relating to current breaks to ambush bait. With this in mind you should be checking the upstream and downstream edges of points, islands, hump's, road bed's etc..

For daily Beaver Lake levels and flow data go to my website and click on the Daily Beaver Lake Level and Flow info link.

The following area's should hold fish, however try to find the clearest water possible. This will most likely be in the coppermine area you will need to adjust your technique to the weather condition's. Also remember while they drop the lake the dirty water will move towards the dam and your best fishing will be ahead the "mud line". You will find a link to the Beaver Lake level and Flow charts for Beaver Lake on the Area/species information page of my website.

Here's on old guides trick, if you are fishing up river where the water is dirty try dipping your shad/minnows tail in a chartreuse dye it doesn't matter if it is scented it just makes the bait more visible to the fish.

On the white river from the hwy 12 bridge to the Hickory creek area concentrate efforts near the channel. Water temp is in the lower 40's.

Beavershores - is producing.

Blackburn creek-This area near Horseshoe bend is holding tons of bait and fish. A lot of good things could happen in this area!

Horseshoe Bend-A lot of bait in this area. Look near sharp drops into the channel.

Monte Ne- Water is dirty fishing is slow. Look near the mouth and on the main river channel. Look nearer the main white river channel as the water level drops.

Hickory Creek- Water is dirty fishing is slow. Try the main river channel and the Hickory Creek arm. And keep in mind that the fish will be moving down river into deeper holes as they drop the lake in order to find shelter from the cold front.

On the mid and lower sections check out these area's. Water temp is in the mid 40's.

Prarrie Creek -Is producing fish from the islands to beaver shores. Pay special attention to the gravel bar south of hwy 12 bridge. Look near the steepest drop on the north end of this gravel bar.

Copper mine-Area's near points 8 and 9 and 10 is producing some fish.

Rocky Branch-Look near the bluff's by the marina and at Red Bluff and the road bed extending to the island. The shad are about 10-25 feet deep(they will go deeper with the cold front) and the striper are scattered from 30-70ft deep. Several fish caught here on a recent trip.

Lost Bridge - In the area's of fish trap hollow and pine log. Fish are 30-70ft deep.

On the main lake try fishing jigging spoons 20-60ft deep in these area's 6-8-9-10.

Beaver Lake Striper Report

BAILEY'S BEAVER LAKE GUIDE SERVICE (479)366-8664 Fishing has been slow but is picking up there are fish to be caught, most fish will be bottom oriented and in the mid lake section of the lake.

The Corp of Engineers has started dropping the lake! Current through the lake will have fish facing "up river" and relating to current breaks to ambush bait. With this in mind you should be checking the upstream and downstream edges of points, islands, hump's etc..

For daily Beaver Lake levels and flow data go to my website and click on the Daily Beaver Lake Level and Flow info link.

The following area's will hold fish, however with all the melting ice/snow run off Find the clearest water possible.

With the warming trend that is predicted for this week the shad and the striper could be found near the surface you might try "free linning" or "flat linning" and be on the look out for near surface action. I have been seeing small fish chasing bait near the surface in the van hollow area. If you are fishing up river where the water is dirty try dipping your shad/minnows tail in a chartruese dye it doesn't matter if it is scented.

Ice has been reported from hickory creek area up to the side walk area. Use extreme caution in this area.

On the white river from the hwy 12 bridge hickory creek concentrate efforts in backs of coves and shallow flats near the river/creek channel using the methods mentioned earlier in this report.

Hickory Creek- Water is dirty fishing is slow. Try the main river channel and the Hickory Creek arm.

Horseshoe Bend-Water is dirty fishing is slow. Look near the flats with sharp drops into the channel.

Monte Ne- Water is dirty fishing is slow. Look near the mouth and on the flats near the main river channel. Some fish have been caught as far back as the boat ramp. Look nearer the main white river channel as the water levels drop.

Lost Bridge - In the area's of fish trap hollow and pine log.

Try umbrella rigs or bait fished 20-50ft deep. Use white jigs in the clearer water and chartruse in the stained water.

Rocky Branch-Look near the bluff's near the marina and at Red Bluff and the road bed extending to the island. The shad are about 10-25 feet deep and the striper are scattered from 30-50ft deep.

Beavershores area is producing.

On the main lake try fishing jigging spoons 20-60ft deep in these area's 5-6-8-9.

Beaver Lake Striper Report

Bailey's Beaver Lake Guide Service (479-366-8664) said stripers are scattered and are hitting shad all over the lake. The hottest action is on shad and brood minnows fished under balloons 10-20 feet deep 50-100 feet behind the boat. (Stagger your balloons so you don't tangle.) On windy days, fish the coves that the wind is blowing into, on still days, fish deeper near the main channel. The Corps of Engineers has postponed dropping Beaver Lake until Jan. 19. The following areas will hold fish, but you must find the clearest water possible because of runoff from melting ice and snow. This will most likely be in the Copper Mine Area. More information on Beaver Lake’s level and flow is available at www.beaversafari.com. With the warming trend predicted, shad and stripers will be found near the surface. Free lining a large shad or minnow may be a good option once the stripers have eaten all the dead shad on the bottom from the last cold spell. On the White River from the Highway 12 Bridge to the Highway 412 Bridge, concentrate efforts in backs of coves and shallow flats near the river/creek channel. In Hickory Creek, try the main river channel and the Hickory Creek arm. Around Horseshoe Bend, the Striper Alley Area is producing fish on the flats near the main river channel. Joe Creek also is producing. The Monte Ne Area has been producing fish. Look near the mouth and on the flats near the main river channel. Some fish have been caught as far back as the boat ramp. In War Eagle, concentrate efforts from the War Eagle/White River junction up War Eagle to the Sidewalk Hole. Some fish are being taken near the power lines at the lower end near the white river. White bass and hybrids can also be taken in the area all the way up to the mill. Try fishing Rooster Tails or jigging spoons in silver or gold/chartreuse. Around Lost Bridge, most fish are being caught on the bottom near Fish Trap Hollow and Pine Log. Prairie Creek is producing fish from the islands to Beaver Shores. Pay special attention to the gravel bar south of Highway 12 Bridge. Look near the steepest drop on the north end of this gravel bar. On the main lake try fishing jigging spoons and live bait on the bottom, around 20-30 feet deep on rocky points 4, 5, 6, 9, 10, 11 and 12.
