Beaver Lake Striper / Walleye Report

BAILEY'S BEAVER LAKE GUIDE SERVICE(479)366-8664 The cold fronts have put a damper on fishing last week but Striper fishing is picking up! Striper are in their usual spring pattern.

Break out your spoons, jigs and rooster tail's.....The white bass run is on! White bass start their run when water temps reach the 53-65 degree range. The males are first to move in and then the females aren't far behind, usually in the 62-67 temp range.

Striper are being caught on free lines and balloons fished 15ft deep.

Bait can still be found in the backs of coves looking for warm water springs flowing in. Striper are holding on main lake structure near any cove that is holding shad.

Stripers can also be taken with #9 rapala original's or Husky jerks and/or rogues 3-5inches long flat line trolled, use planer boards in order to spread your lines giving you the ability to fish more rods but also allowing you to cover shallow water near the bank as you troll.  Move rapalas at a speed of about 2-2.5mph.

You can not mix different baits such as live and rapala in your trolling spread due to the different actions required for the proper presentation of each.

During the spawn run a lot of striper and hybrids are mistaken for white bass so....
Know your species and make sure you identify any fish you keep. There is no limit on white bass, there is a 3 fish limit on striper/hybrid and a 20 inch minimum length on striper. You may not keep more than 3 striper and hybrid in combination.

Fish location is greatly influenced by lake level and current flow, current in the lake from generation will generally position fish on upstream or down stream edges of structure.....check the daily lake level and flow data link on my web site.

Live shad as always on Beaver Lake when fishing for Trophy Stripers is the go to approach. Stripers are hitting shad in the 4-6 inch range. If you want a big fish try a  shadzilla in the 10-14 inch range!

The following area's will be holding striper at different times during the day.

On the mid and lower sections check out these area's. Water surface temps dropped into the low 50's but should climb back to the mid to high 50's this week.

Indian creek- free line the flats.

Big Clifty arm- Striper moving up river

Rocky Branch-try the larue cove and the area known as striper island near larue.

Copper mine-

Upper section-
water temps in the low to high 50's.

Prairie creek-  Look in the back of prairie creek and run free lines. Also check the flats off the islands, pay close attention to the flats located adjacent to the main river channel. Check in Avoca hollow also it is hot right now!

Coose Hollow-Bait, birds and fish! Great things going on here!

Ventris- Bait, birds, and fish! Great things happening here!

Blackburn creek-Look in the back of Blackburn for large schools of shad and free line the cove for striper.

Beaver shores-

Horseshoe bend- Check Escalapia hollow. We caught a 30+lb striper in this area on 03/31/2011.

Montne- Look in the back of Montne for large schools of shad and free line the cove for striper. Check the mouth paying close attention to the flats.

Hickory creek-Some striper taken in the area. Check hickory creek cove and the flat across from the marina.

War Eagle- Walleye spawn is beginning to peak and white bass are beginning to show up.

War eagle/White river junction-  fish being caught from the mouth and up river as far as you can get your boat. The last deep holes are holding scores of striper and White bass.

Blue springs area-

WALLEYE

Walleye run is pretty much done and the fish will be shifting back down stream. Walleye spawn temp range is 40-54 degrees. The fishing for walleye will slow down dramatically soon.

Most walleye will be about 5-10ft deep, fish are being taken off the points and on mid stream humps. Check upstream and down stream edges of humps and points.

A casting approach using spoons, rooster tails, and jigs is productive. Try white, chartrues, orang, silver.

Flat line troll over shallow bars with rapalas in natural blue or black back combos are also producing.

Try rogues in clown flash also.

Also fish shad raps in fire tiger or clown colors.

Beaver Lake Striper Report

BAILEY'S BEAVER LAKE GUIDE SERVICE (479)366-8664 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting (479)366-8664 end_of_the_skype_highlighting I have added GPS coordinates of striper and shad location to my fishing report for all you serious "LINE SIDERS"!

Be on the look out for surface activity from smaller fish i.e. white bass and hybrids. Small stripes are also beginning to look to the surface. No your species and make sure you identify any fish you keep. There is no limit on white bass, there is a 3 fish limit on striper/hybrid and a 20 inch minimum length on striper. You may not keep more than 3 striper and hybrid in combination.

Stripes are on the move. They are adjusting location following bait as it moves back up lake toward the river. Bait is on the move due to falling water temps and food availability.

Most striper are being caught between 30 and 60 feet deep with some large fish caught near 100 ft deep. The fall pattern shift is beginning and the striper will begin relating to tapering points leading up to flats and/or humps where bait will be located. Night fishing is still good but the morning and afternoon bite is beginning to pick up.

Check along bluffs and tree lines! Bombers and redfins fished on down riggers are producing nice striper....troll baits at about 1.5- 2.5 miles per hour. Umbrellas are also producing at this speed. Work the area above the thermocline where the bait fish are holding when trolling umbrellas.

The striper really get active when they are generating.....check the daily lake level and flow data link on my web site.

Striper are keyed on steeper breaks with quick access into deep water where they can ambush shad. But are beginning to shift location to tapering points, humps and flats.

Live Gizzard shad as always on Beaver Lake when fishing for Trophy Stripers is the go to approach.

The following area's will be holding striper at different times during the day.

On the mid and lower sections check out these area's. Water surface temps are in the mid to low 80's.

Point 5 is holding large schools of nice striper!!!! Hump-N36*21.162 W93*52.452... Murdell area-N36*21.773 W93* 52.024. Check the point that extends from the opposite bank-N36*21.112 W93*52.945

Point 6 is holding some stripes-N36* 19.205 W93* 54.193

Upper section-

Horse shoe bend and Beaver shores area- Look for surface activity from whites etc.....

The GPS coordinates are location of striper during my latest outings....remember the fish will change location from day to day and that the GPS coordinates give you a good starting point. Get out there and use your electronics!
